MIXIMIZING WATERFRONT POTENTIAL

In the oldest city in Norway, Tønsberg, some 100 km south of Oslo, the site of a former shipyard has been completely transformed into a mixed-use development – Kaldnes Brygge – combining living, business, and recreation spaces into a unique environment. The shipyard, founded in 1899,
is perhaps most famous for building over 80 whaling ships. It was closed in 1992 and property development began ten years later.

Central to Kaldnes Brygge will be a state-of-the-art floating marina with capacity for 200 boats and direct access to the beautiful archipelago off the western shore of the Oslo fjord. The first of the five development phases is a 108-metre floating dock that runs the entire length of the waterfront. With movable fingers, the 26 berths are highly flexible and can be adjusted as necessary. The gangways at either end of the dock are hinged to accommodate tidal fluctuation. The first phase was completed in April 2019, and the entire marina is expected to be completed by 2022.
The floating dock was designed and manufactured by SF Marina in Sweden.
